President Murmu, Ors pay tributes to victims of 26/11 Mumbai Attack
by Northlines · NorthlinesMUMBAI, Nov 26: On the 16th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, President Droupadi Murmu led the nation in remembering the lives lost in the horrific assault that shook India. “On the anniversary of the cowardly terror attacks in Mumbai on 26th November, 2008, I join the entire nation in paying homage to the bravehearts who lost their lives and expressing solidarity with their families,” President Murmu said in a post on X.
The attack, carried out by 10 terrorists from Pakistan, claimed the lives of 166 people and remains one of the deadliest in India’s history. Nine attackers were killed by Indian security forces, while the sole surviving terrorist, Ajmal Kasab, was captured, tried, and executed in 2012.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to the victims, expressing his sorrow over the loss. “Humble tribute to the innocent citizens who lost their lives in the cowardly terror attack in Mumbai on 26/11, and heartfelt salute to the brave sons of Mother India who sacrificed their lives,” he said in a post on X. Adityanath also reiterated his commitment to fighting terrorism, calling for national unity to combat this global menace.
In Mumbai, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, along with Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, paid their respects at the Martyrs Memorial located at the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s Office.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah condemned terrorism as a “blot on the entire human civilization,” while praising India’s firm stance against it. He highlighted the Modi government’s “zero tolerance” policy towards terrorism, which has gained international recognition. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also marked the occasion, tweeting, “We remember, and we will never forget those wounds.”
