Indonesia’s President Subianto likely to be chief guest at India’s Republic Day: Sources
by Northlines · NorthlinesNEW DELHI, Jan 12: Prabowo Subianto, the newly elected President of Indonesia, will be the Chief Guest at India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations, according to sources. This visit is particularly significant as both nations celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.
The announcement comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Subianto held their first meeting at the G20 Summit in Rio last year, where they reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both leaders agreed to celebrate the milestone in a meaningful way, as per the Ministry of External Affairs.
“Indonesia and India have long-standing and excellent relations. We deeply value this relationship and are committed to enhancing it across various sectors,” President Subianto stated, according to the Cabinet Secretariat of Indonesia.
Prabowo Subianto assumed office as Indonesia’s eighth president in October 2024, alongside Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, the son of former President Joko Widodo. India’s representation at his swearing-in ceremony was led by Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita.
