Centre Raises Commercial LPG Allocation to 70%, Focus on Core Industries

NEW DELHI: The Union Government has increased commercial LPG allocation for states to 70 per cent, with 20 per cent earmarked for key sectors such as steel, automobile, textile and other labour-intensive industries, in a move aimed at easing supply constraints.

Announcing the decision, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said priority will be given to industries where piped gas is not a viable substitute, ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability for critical sectors.

He added that while several countries are resorting to strict fuel conservation measures such as odd-even systems, reduced work weeks, closure of institutions and steep fuel price hikes, India continues to maintain energy security, availability and affordability.

The Minister said the step is intended to support industrial activity while maintaining stable fuel supply across the country. (Agencies)
