C. Joseph Vijay Sworn In as Tamil Nadu CM, 9 Ministers Take Oath
by Northlines · NorthlinesIn Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, was sworn in as Chief Minister on Sunday morning, marking a significant political shift in the state.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at Nehru Indoor Stadium at 10 AM, where Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy. Alongside Vijay, nine ministers were also sworn in as part of the new cabinet.
Among those inducted as Cabinet Ministers were KG Arunraj, Aadhav Arjuna, N Anand, Selvi S Keerthana and Dr TK Prabhu.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several prominent figures from the Tamil film industry attended the ceremony.
Vijay assumed office with the backing of Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Indian Union Muslim League, securing support from 120 MLAs in the 234-member Assembly.
He also made history as the first Chief Minister of the state since 1967 not affiliated with either the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam or the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
According to an official release, the Governor has directed Vijay to seek a vote of confidence in the Assembly on or before May 13. (Agencies)
