Man Dies After Losing Consciousness at Police Post in R S Pura, Family Stages Protest
by Northlines · NorthlinesJammu, Sep 9: A 32-year-old man died after allegedly falling unconscious at a border police post in the R S Pura sector early Wednesday, triggering a protest by his family members and relatives who demanded clarity over the circumstances surrounding his death.
The deceased, Uttam Chand, a resident of Rakh village, had been called to the Chakroi police post following a complaint lodged by a woman neighbour in connection with a property dispute, official sources said.
According to preliminary information, Chand fell unconscious at the police post and was subsequently taken to the Sub-district Hospital, R S Pura, at around 4 am.
Doctors at the hospital referred him to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, for further treatment. However, Chand died while being shifted to the hospital, the sources said.
His body was later shifted to the mortuary for postmortem examination.
Following the death, family members and relatives staged a protest, seeking an explanation regarding the circumstances that led to Chand’s death and demanding appropriate action.
Senior police officers rushed to the spot following the protest, while additional personnel were deployed at the Chakroi police post and the hospital mortuary as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.
Further details regarding the circumstances of the death are awaited, while the postmortem examination is expected to help establish the cause of death.
