J&K: 5 Killed as Scorpio Plunges Into Chenab in Kishtwar’s Dachhan
by Northlines · NorthlinesKISHTWAR, Aug 15: At least five people were killed after a Mahindra Scorpio skidded off the road and plunged into the Chenab River in the Dachhan area of Kishtwar district on Saturday, officials said.
The accident occurred at around 10:45 am at Yainwan in Dangdaroo when the vehicle, bearing registration number HR29AG-0648, was travelling from Dangdaroo towards Sounder.
According to officials, the Scorpio lost control, rolled down the roadside and fell into the Chenab River, triggering an immediate rescue and recovery operation.
A team from Police Station Dachhan, along with local residents and other personnel, rushed to the accident site and launched efforts to locate the occupants and recover the vehicle.
Officials said five bodies had been recovered from the site so far. The identities of the deceased are yet to be established.
The exact number of people travelling in the Scorpio at the time of the accident remains unclear, officials said, as rescue and recovery efforts continued.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
