New Delhi, Jul 13 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the contributions of four newly nominated Rajya Sabha members — former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, Kerala BJP leader C. Sadanandan Master, and historian Meenakshi Jain — calling their appointments a reflection of their service and dedication to the nation.

The President of India nominated the four eminent individuals to the Rajya Sabha, as confirmed in a late Saturday notification issued by the Union Home Ministry.

In a series of posts on X, Modi highlighted each nominee’s achievements. On Ujjwal Nikam, Modi said his career exemplifies a deep commitment to constitutional values and justice. “He has not only been a successful lawyer but also led the charge in significant cases like the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack trial,” the PM said, congratulating him on his new role.

On Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the PM noted his diplomatic prowess and strategic insights. “He has made key contributions to India’s foreign policy and played an important role in India’s G20 Presidency,” Modi said, expressing confidence that his perspectives would enrich parliamentary debate.

Modi described C. Sadanandan Master as a symbol of courage and perseverance. Despite losing both legs in a brutal political attack in 1994, Sadanandan continued his work in education and social development. “He is deeply committed to youth empowerment and national development,” the PM said.

Calling it a “matter of immense joy,” Modi lauded Meenakshi Jain’s scholarly work. “Her contributions to education, literature, history, and political science have significantly shaped academic discourse,” he said.

The Rajya Sabha allows for 12 nominated members, selected for their distinguished service in fields like arts, literature, science, and social service. These nominations fill four current vacancies. (Agencies)
