PM Modi Announces $175 Million Special Economic Package for Seychelles
by Northlines · NorthlinesNEW DELHI, Feb 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced a Special Economic Package worth 175 million dollars for Seychelles, aimed at boosting cooperation across key development and strategic sectors.
The announcement was made during a joint press meet with Seychelles President Dr Patrick Herminie after their meeting in New Delhi. Modi said the package would support projects in social housing, e-mobility, vocational training, health, defence and maritime security.
India and Seychelles also signed seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering sectors such as health, meteorology, electronics and information technology, and good governance. Among the agreements is a pact for technical and scientific cooperation between the India Meteorological Department and the Seychelles Meteorological Authority.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said India and Seychelles are connected not only by geography but also by history, trust and a shared vision for the future. He added that as a maritime neighbour and trusted partner, Seychelles occupies a special place in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.
The agreements and the economic package are expected to further strengthen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation in development and security-related areas between the two countries. (Agencies)
