Stabbing in Devon town centre leaves man injured

A man has been taken to hospital after a suspected stabbing. Devon and Cornwall Police was called to the reported stabbing in Torquay's Castle Circus at 12.20pm this afternoon, Tuesday, November 26.

Officers rushed to the scene and a cordon was put in place. Police said a man, aged 49 and from Paignton, was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Investigating police officers are urging witnesses or anyone with relevant information on what happened to come forward.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at 12.20pm today to Castle Circus, following reports that a man has been stabbed. The victim has sustained a suspected stab wound and has been taken to hospital – the severity of the injury is not yet known.

"A 49-year-old man from Paignton has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into police custody. A scene guard remains in place at Castle Circus with restrictions to Union Street and Tor Hill Road.

"Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information to please contact us on 101 or via our website quoting log 363 of 26/11/24. Alternatively, you can report information anonymously to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111."
