Gbajabiamila: PFIPC scandal like 9/11, can happen anywhere – APC chieftain defends Presidency
by Francis Ugwu · Daily PostA chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Taofiq Raimi, has defended the Presidency over the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, scandal, saying sophisticated crimes can occur in any country, just as the September 11 terrorist attacks happened in the United States.
Speaking on Prime Time on Arise Television on Friday, Raimi suggested it was unfair to conclude that the incident reflected a failure of the Presidency, arguing that criminal activities could evade detection even in advanced nations.
“The nature of sophisticated crime and criminality across the world can be so tight that certain times you have to wonder how certain things happened.
“All of us were alive when the incident of 9/11 happened in America. Why didn’t we say, ‘Oh, why did the incident happen in America?'” He said.
His comments come amid controversy over Adeyemi Adeniyi Matthew, who allegedly posed as the Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, later referred to as the Presidential Economic Advisory Council.
The Presidency has maintained that the council never existed and described Adeyemi as an impostor facing criminal prosecution.
