Free Nnamdi Kanu Protest: Atiku’s aide slams presidency over calls for Ejimakor’s arrest
by Seun Opejobi · Daily PostThe media aide to former Vice president Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga for calling for sanction of Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, over the protest by activist Omoyele Sowore.
Ibe wondered how Onanuga’s call for Ejimakor’s sanction affects the price of rice, beans, and the wellbeing of Nigerians.
Onanuga had accused Ejimakor of failing to abide by the principles of sub-judice by joining the free Nnamdi Kanu protest convened by Sowore in Abuja.
He accused Kanu’s Special Counsel of resorting to extra legal tactics in his push for his client’s freedom.
However, Ibe faulted Onanuga’s stance, stressing that everything should not be about politics.
Posting on X, Ibe wrote: “Dear Bayo Onanuga, Everything must not necessarily be about politics. But that should not be surprising considering that you serve an incompetent and clueless President who has abandoned governance for politics.
“Nigeria’s Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners (2007) do not contain anything that prohibits lawyers from joining peaceful protests related to their clients. Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution as Amended guarantees freedom of assembly, which includes professionals such as lawyers.
“By the way, how does your politically motivated call for the sanction of Aloy Ejimakor affect the prices of rice, beans, yam, milk, among others, and indeed the material well being of the average Nigerian?”
