Benue: Police confirm abduction of nine worshippers during night vigil

The Benue State Police Command has acknowledged the abduction of nine church members at Ojije community in Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, via telephone on Monday in Makurdi, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Udeme, confirmed that the incident took place during a night vigil.

According to Udeme, the worshippers were attending prayers at St. John’s Catholic Church, Ojije, when they were seized by the assailants.

She disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate deployment of all tactical units across the state to the affected area, with a mandate to secure the release of the victims.

Udeme added that the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, assuring residents that measures are in place to maintain security throughout Benue State.
