Coalition: No crisis in ADC – Bolaji Abdullahi speaks on engagement of Peter Obi, El-Rufai
by Seun Opejobi · Daily PostThe spokesman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, has insisted that there is no crisis within the party following the takeover by the coalition.
He disclosed this while dismissing the stance of the former presidential candidate of the ADC, Dumebi Kachikwu, regarding the takeover of the party by the opposition coalition.
Featuring on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Abdullahi insisted that there is no factionalization within the ADC.
He said:
“There is no confusion or crisis in the ADC, we are very clear about this. I understand what Dumebi is saying. They may have had issues when he was the presidential candidate, but for us, we are on solid legal footing.”
“If he has any particular grievances—and we understand that people have grievances—we are ready to deal with them. But we don’t understand what his grievances are.”
“There is no factionalization. Some of these narratives are also wrong, and this is what led us to this in the past. What do we call democracy, if not the right to disagree and contest issues?”
“We have announced that we have gone into the ADC, and if there are any issues afterwards, we will deal with them. But we are on solid legal ground.”
Abdullahi also commented on the engagement of a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party, Nasir El-Rufai, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party in the ADC without resigning from their parties.
“On the question of whether El-Rufai is still in the SDP or Peter Obi in the Labour Party, we understand that there are elections in-between before 2027 that they were engaged in.”
“So they bought forms on the platforms of those parties. So it’s only normal to allow the candidates to contest on the platforms of those parties.”
“When they are done with that, everybody, in principle, is with the ADC, and we will leave them to sort out all the elections in-between them,” he added.
