Benue: ‘Arrest not enough’ – Seriake Dickson fumes over attack on Peter Obi’s convoy

The national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, says the arrest of the thugs who attacked the convoy of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Benue State is not enough.

Dickson made this assertion on Wednesday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’.

He said that Nigerians want to see the prosecution of the thugs behind the attack and their sponsors.

DAILY POST reports that there was tension in Benue State on Tuesday after suspected thugs allegedly blocked a major road as Obi arrived in the state.

Speaking after the incident, Obi decried the state of Nigerian politics, clarifying that his presence in the state was strictly humanitarian rather than campaign-driven.

Recall that operatives of the Benue State Police Command on Wednesday arrested 46 suspects in connection with the attack. 

Reacting, Dickson said, “We have to see a detailed investigation, and we have to see the extent of complicity of people who are in a position.

“We want to see everything because there’s an allegation, for example, that some officials were part of it. Nigerians need to know if that is true.

“The police have done very well to make some arrests but we want to see the outcome of the investigation, and then we see a prosecution of those responsible for the attack.”
