Nine dead, 10 injured as bus crashes on Kano–Maiduguri Expressway
by Timi Owolabi · Daily PostThe Bauchi State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that nine passengers lost their lives in a fatal road crash that occurred at about 6:20 am on Friday along the Jama’are–Azare axis of the Kano–Maiduguri Expressway.
Ten others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Sector Commander CC Apaji Danladi Boyi, while briefing journalists on Friday, revealed that the incident involved a commercial vehicle with registration number KTG 181 ZZ, conveying 19 passengers from Gombe to Kano.
The Sector Commander noted that the crash was “not unconnected to over-speeding, fatigue and loss of control,” adding that FRSC personnel immediately evacuated the injured victims to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, for medical attention.
The corpses, according to him, have been deposited at the morgue, awaiting identification and claims by relatives.
Boyi stated that the Operation Zero Special Patrol is ongoing across the state, with officers monitoring major roads to curb accidents during the heavy post-festive traffic flow.
He appealed to motorists to comply with traffic regulations, warning that roads remain busy as travellers return to their bases after the Yuletide and New Year celebrations.
