The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has condemned the killing of social media commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, in his home in Kano.

In a post on his official X handle on Friday, Obi said he is saddened by the incident.

He asked the government of Kano State and security agencies to carry out a holistic and transparent probe towards unraveling the cause of the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.

The former Anambra State governor stated that Nigeria’s Constitution guarantees every citizen the fundamental right to freedom of expression, noting that such right must be protected for all, regardless of differences.

“No disagreement, criticism, or neighbourhood dispute can ever justify the taking of a human life. Those who speak up, express their opinions, or hold different views must not be made to live in fear.

“My heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, colleagues, and followers. May Almighty God grant him eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength and comfort to bear this painful loss,” he tweeted.
