Kano govt warns against planned Sallah disruption, announces new durbar plans
by Nana Ismail · Daily PostThe Kano State Government says it has received intelligence about alleged plans by some individuals to cause trouble during the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government said the reports came through the State Security Council and point to deliberate attempt to create confusion and instigate a breakdown of law and order during Sallah.
The statement added: “While the Government remains fully committed to promoting, protecting, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Kano, it reiterates that it will not compromise its primary constitutional responsibility of maintaining peace, law, and order, as well as safeguarding the lives and property of all residents.”
After consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other stakeholders, the government announced new arrangements for the celebrations.
It said: “Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar): This will be conducted by His Highness, Sarkin Kano Muhammad Sanusi II, from the Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, terminating at Kofar Fatalwa of the Kano Emir’s Palace.”
The government also explained, “Hawan Nasarawa: This will take place in a modified form but NOT on horseback.”
It adde, “Hawan Daushe: This has been suspended for now and will be observed during subsequent Sallah celebrations, In-sha-Allah.”
The statement noted, “Hawan Fanisau and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended for the time being in the best interest of public peace and safety.”
Authorities have directed security agencies to step up monitoring and enforce the rules strictly to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The government urged residents to remain calm, obey the law, and cooperate with security agencies. It also warned against spreading unverified information.
The government thanked security agencies for their efforts and wished Muslims a peaceful and joyful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
