Strait of Hormuz: No direct, indirect contact with you – Iran replies Trump
by Matthew Atungwu · Daily PostIranian authorities have said there is no direct or indirect contact with United States President Donald Trump.
Trump had announced that he has directed the Department of Defense to defer all airstrikes targeting Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period.
He attributed his decision the “success” of the ongoing “meetings and discussions,” as he stated in a post on Truth Social.
According to him, in the past two days, Washington and Tehran have engaged in “very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.”
Trump’s message comes towards the end of a 48-hour deadline that he had imposed on Iran to allow the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz or face attacks on its power plants, in what would have been a major escalation.
Reacting, however, the Iranian embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, said Trump refrained from attacking after “Iran’s stern warning”.
Recall that Iranian political and military officials had warned that they would strike energy and oil facilities across the region and in Israel, and that they would completely shut down the waterway through which a fifth of global oil passes.
