Police confirm youths blocked Peter Obi’s convoy in Benue, launch investigation

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed that some youths blocked the convoy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during his movement to Yelwata on Tuesday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, confirmed the development in a response to DAILY POST.

Aondongu said police operatives provided security for Obi’s movement, adding that the command had commenced an investigation into the incident.

He said: “We can confirm that the Police are aware of the incident involving Peter Obi’s movement to Yelwata. Police operatives provided security for the movement.

“The reason the convoy was blocked by some youths is still unknown. We are monitoring the situation and investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Further updates will be provided accordingly.”

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, alleged that suspected sponsored thugs blocked a road near the Air Force Base in an attempt to prevent Obi and his entourage from proceeding with their journey.

She also shared videos showing some individuals running after vehicles believed to be part of Obi’s convoy.

The police have yet to disclose the identities of the youths or the reason behind the action.
