The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has affirmed Governor Umar Namadi as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.

The affirmation exercise was held on Thursday at Dutse Stadium in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

The chairman of the state governorship primary election committee, Isa Sadik, said the process was conducted in the presence of security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He explained that the Electoral Act provides two options for the emergence of candidates: either through consensus or by conducting primary elections where there is a contest.

According to him, delegates from the 287 political wards in the state unanimously endorsed Governor Namadi as the APC’s sole governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

“Based on the powers bestowed on me as chairman of the governorship election committee, and in accordance with Sections 84 and 86 of the Electoral Act as well as the APC constitution, I hereby affirm and declare Governor Umar Namadi as the sole candidate of the APC for the 2027 governorship election,” he said.

Sadik also presented the governor with the party’s certificate of return as the duly elected governorship candidate of the APC.

Speaking at the event, the APC state chairman, Ahmad Muhammad, said primary elections were conducted in only three federal constituencies, while candidates in the remaining eight constituencies emerged through consensus arrangements.

He added that all three senatorial candidates and the 30 State House of Assembly candidates also emerged through consensus.

Muhammad commended party members and stakeholders for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the party primaries across the state.

He urged members to remain united and work towards securing victory for the APC at all levels in the 2027 general elections.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Umar Namadi thanked Almighty Allah for the opportunity to seek a second term in office.

The governor also appreciated party leaders, stakeholders and members for allowing him to contest unopposed and assured them of his continued commitment to executing more development projects.

He assured party faithful that he would justify the confidence reposed in him and continue working tirelessly for the success of the APC across the state and the country.
