Tremors & Loud Explosion Shock Several Areas Around Ipoh

UPDATE: Authorities yet to uncover any likely causes for the explosion.

Several areas around Ipoh were rattled by tremors and a loud explosion early this morning, 21 October, causing alarm among residents

A check by SAYS on social media showed users claiming to have felt the tremors in various locations, including Medan Istana, Tasek, Stadium Perak, Meru, Falim, Klebang, Manjoi, and Tanjung Rambutan.

Some motorists on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) near the Menora Tunnel also reported the same.

According to one woman, she and her colleagues in Medan Istana rushed out of their office as soon as the tremors began

"At the time of the incident, I was working in the room. Suddenly, I felt the building shaking, and the glass door seemed like it was going to break," she was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.

"At the same time, I heard a sound like a boom coming from the top of the building, so we immediately ran out of the office out of concern for our safety. I have already contacted the Department of Minerals and Geoscience (JMG) to report the incident," the woman added.

There has been no official confirmation from authorities yet

It is unclear what caused the tremors and explosion.
