UPDATE:
A decomposed body has been discovered in an elevator shaft at a partially constructed condominium in Bangsar during a police search for Jordan Johnson-Doyle, a British man missing since 27 May
Brickfields district police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood confirmed that the 25-year-old's movements were traced to the building on Lorong Maarof around 4pm on Wednesday, 4 June.
Shortly after, a search operation involving at least 30 officers was launched. At around 5pm, officers found a body in a partially submerged elevator shaft at a section of the site still under construction.
However, Ku Mashariman said it was too early to confirm the identity of the body.
"All efforts to either identify the body physically or through DNA analysis will be conducted at UMMC," he said, referring to the University Malaya Medical Centre.
The body, believed to be that of a foreign man, was found face down with most of his clothes removed, according to the police
It was retrieved around 9.30pm and sent to UMMC for post-mortem and identification.
The case has been classified as sudden death for now, with the cause of death still under investigation.
Asked whether the victim might have fallen into the elevator shaft, Ku Mashariman said that possibility, along with all other angles, would be investigated thoroughly, reported the New Straits Times.
Johnson-Doyle, a software engineer from the UK, had been backpacking across Southeast Asia while working remotely for a US tech company
He arrived in Malaysia on 17 May and was believed to be staying at the Robertson Residences in Bukit Bintang.
Police said he was last seen at Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar around 8pm on 27 May, where staff confirmed he had attended a quiz night that evening. One employee recalled seeing him but could not confirm what happened after. Another said he only learned about the case through the media.
