FRU Crash: Lorry Driver Has Rape & Theft Convictions
He is scheduled to be brought to court today, 14 May, for a remand hearing.

The lorry driver involved in the fatal crash that killed nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) officers yesterday, 13 May, has prior a rape conviction
According to Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, the lorry driver, who has yet to be named, has six previous convictions: four for theft, a drug offence, and one for rape.
"All six cases led to convictions. A urine test came back negative. Despite viral claims that he had consumed ketum, no traces were found," he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.
The driver, 45, is expected to be brought to court today, 14 May, for a remand hearing.
Ayob said that police are investigating the case from all angles, including claims that the lorry driver may have swerved into the FRU convoy to avoid another vehicle.
Meanwhile, six officers are in critical condition
Of the nine other FRU personnel injured in the crash, six are in critical condition, while three sustained moderate injuries. One of the officers has been transferred to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for surgery.
Ayob also announced financial assistance for the families of both the deceased and injured
Police Welfare Fund: RM1,200 per family
Tabung Amanah Perwira dan Pertahanan Negara:
- RM25,000 for fatalities
- RM8,000–RM11,000 for serious injuries
- RM1,000 for minor injuries
Perak Police Headquarters Allocation: RM11,000 per affected personnel
In total, families may receive between RM58,000 and RM299,000 in aid, depending on the severity of each case.
