Two women Maoists were killed by the security forces in an anti-Maoist operation on Monday (January 20, 2025), a police officer said. A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel also sustained superficial injuries, the officer added.

The operation was carried out in the area of the Manipur Police Station by a team comprising personnel from the District Reserve Guard, the CRPF, and CoBRA, an elite unit of the CRPF, from Chhattisgarh, while a Special Operation Group from Odisha was also involved, the officer said.

With this, at least 28 alleged Maoists have been killed by the security forces in the State since January 1. The biggest encounter in 2025 took place at Bijapur on January 16, in which 12 Maoists were killed. However, the police later said the Maoists themselves had issued a press release saying 18 Maoists had been killed in that encounter.
