Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah paid their last respects to Bharath Bhushan, who was killed in a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Bhushan’s mortal remains were kept at his residence in Sundar Nagar, Mathikere, Bengaluru, for the public to pay their last respects.

On April 24, in the early hours of the morning, the bodies of Bharath Bhushan and Manjunath Rao arrived at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru. Family members of the deceased travelled from Delhi, accompanied by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya. The mortal remains were first transported from Kashmir to Delhi, before reaching Bengaluru.

Manjunath Rao’s body was later taken to his residence in Shivamogga.

At KIA, Mr. Surya and Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna paid their respects.

The government of Karnataka has announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹10 lakh to each of the bereaved families.

Bharat Bhushan’s body arrived at his residence around 6 a.m. He is survived by his wife and three-year-old son. With the support of the government of Karnataka and neighbors, the family made the necessary arrangements for the final rites.

Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy was tasked by CM Siddaramaiah to oversee the final rites. The government had deployed adequate security at the site, as citizens and political leaders gathered to pay their respects.

Governor Gehlot visited the family and offered his condolences, consoling Bharat Bhushan’s wife and other family members. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, after offering homage, strongly condemned the attack.

“The terrorists responsible for this act are unfit to be called human beings,” he said. “Bhushan was shot in front of his wife and young son. It is a deeply tragic incident. The government stands firmly with the families of the victims. The Union Government must ensure every terrorist in the region is eliminated. However, this attack also reveals a serious lapse in intelligence,” CM said.
