Five injured in cracker blast at transport office in Kakinada city

One of the three bags containing crackers exploded while porters were unloading it from a vehicle that arrived from Hyderabad city; the consignee is under police custody

Five porters survived with major injuries in a blast of ‘onion bombs’ (crackers that explode on impact) while they were unloading a consignment from a vehicle at Jai Balaji Transport Agency premises under One Town police limits in Kakinada city on Monday (March 3, 2025).

The injured porters have been identified as B. Madhu Kumar, who is battling for life, and four others are Ashok Kumar, Lova Raju, Pothuraju and Nagesh. All of them belong to Kakinada City.

Kakinada Superintendent of Police G. Bindu Madhav stated that the incident occurred when a porter dumped a bag containing ‘onion bombs’ from the transport vehicle, leading to the explosion. 

“We have identified three bags containing the ‘onion bombs’ covered with aluminum foil in the transport vehicle that arrived from Hyderabad City. The consignee of the bombs is in our custody and the investigation is on,” Mr. Bindu Madhav told the newsmen.

The police launched an investigation into the case to trace the origin of the bombs and the purpose of import and usage by the importer. The five injured persons have been shifted to Kakinada Government General Hospital.
