Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila on Thursday (May 22, 2025) said that the YSRCP was in the grip of fear as “the liquor scam unfolded” in the State.

Addressing the media, she said the YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, in a bid to address his fears and seek security, had started speaking about it. “However, the language Mr. Jagan is using is not befitting a former Chief Minister,” Ms. Sharmila said.

Taking strong exception to Mr. Jagan’s claim that he would strip the policemen of their uniforms and thrash them, she said it was inappropriate for a former Chief Minister to speak like that.

Accusing her brother, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, of using the police during his tenure for political gain, she cited the cases of Raghu Ramakrishna Raju and Kadambari Jethwani, who were “subjected to police harassment and pushed behind bars”.

Ms. Sharmila said Mr. Jagan should also go to the Assembly and demand an investigation on record. “If you are unable to ask for an inquiry, it implies that you are guilty,” she said, adding that Mr. Jagan should prove his honesty by explaining why there were no digital payments in liquor shops under his government and where had the revenue gone.
