The stepson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh was found dead on Tuesday (May 13, 2025). The preliminary autopsy report of Srinjoy Dasgupta (27) ruled out any foul play and suggested that the death may have resulted in “acute haemorrhagic pancreatitis”.

Srinjoy was the son of Mr. Gosh’s wife Rinku Majumdar from her previous marriage.

Srinjoy was working in an IT firm and used to stay in the New Town area of Kolkata. Ms. Majumdar and other relatives had rushed Srinjoy to a State-run health facility after where he was declared dead.

“It is my misfortune that I have to suffer from the bereavement of a son. We cannot imagine what has happened,” Mr. Ghosh said.

Mr. Ghosh (60) had married Rinku Majumdar (50), who is also associated with the BJP, on April 18 in a private ceremony in Kolkata.

The marriage of former West Bengal BJP president, who was formerly associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh had generated much curiosity in political circles. The son had supported the mother’s decision to marry and even made statements before the media that he was very happy and will continue to support her decision.

While Ms. Majumdar admitted that her son was a little depressed but added that he would often come down to meet her. “He had come to meet me on the occasion of Mother’s Day and also brought a gift,” Ms. Majumdar said.

A few other relatives claimed that they had spoken to Srinjoy on Monday (May 12, 2025) evening. According to the police, no official complaint was lodged by Ms. Majumdar or any other member of the family.
