Five youngsters drown in Kondapochamma reservoir in Telangana

A recreational visit turned fatal for five young men from Hyderabad who drowned in the Kondapochammasagar reservoir on Saturday afternoon. Of the seven friends who travelled from Secunderabad to Siddipet in the morning, only two survived and have been shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Dhanush, a 20-year-old professional photographer and Sahil, 19. While Lohit, 17, Cheekatla Dhaneshwar, 17 and Jatin, 17, are all students from an engineering college in Meerpet. Two others Komari Mrigank and MD Ibrahim, both 17 survived the tragedy and have been shifted to a hospital.

According to the police, the group had reached the reservoir through a neighbouring village after finding the main entrance blocked and barricaded. Ignoring safety precautions, they ventured into the water, holding hands for balance. While attempting to click a selfie, they slipped into deeper waters, Siddipet Commissioner of Police B. Anuradha said.

Rescue teams were deployed immediately after the incident, and the bodies of the victims were recovered and sent for post mortem.

A case has been booked and investigation initiated.
