Scorned employee kills employer’s wife, son in Delhi; arrested
by Alisha Dutta · The HinduA woman and her minor son were killed by her husband’s employee in Lajpat Nagar, south Delhi, after she scolded him for taking loans and being irregular at his job, a police officer said on Thursday.
The accused, Mukesh, 24, was arrested from Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh. The deceased woman has been identified as Ruchika Sewani, 42.
DCP (South East) Hemant Tiwari said the woman’s husband, Kuldeep Sewani, made a PCR call around 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday and reported that his house was locked from outside and there were bloodstains on the door handle. The police broke open the door and found Ruchika dead in the bedroom and her son in the bathroom.
While scanning CCTV footage, it was found that Mr. Mukesh, who worked at Mr. Kuldeep’s garment shop in Lajpat Nagar, was the last person to enter and leave the house. The DCP said the accused had attempted to contact his family in Hajipur, Bihar, using a different phone number, which helped the police track his location.
Later, the accused told the police that he got engaged to a woman last month and had borrowed ₹40,000 and a mobile phone from his employer’s family, after which he went to his home town for a month.
On Wednesday, Ruchika had left a voice message on his phone scolding him for being irregular at work and asking him to return the loaned money and phone. Anguished over the message, Mr. Mukesh went to his employer’s house and attacked the mother and the son with a knife, the officer said.
The police have recovered the knife and registered a case of murder. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
