Leaders pay respects to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduFloral tributes and rendering of bhajans and patriotic songs marked the observance of the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Thursday.
Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan paid homage by garlanding the statue of the Father of the Nation at Gandhi Thidal on the beach. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy also paid floral tributes.
Speaker R. Selvam, Home Minister A. Namassivayam, Minister for Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare AK. Sai J. Saravanankumar, Deputy Speaker P. Rajavelu, MLAs S. Ramesh, U. Lakshmikandhan and V.P. Ramalingam, Sharat Chauhan, Chief Secretary, Shalini Singh, Director General of Police, government secretaries, police officers and others paid their respects.
Following this, a two-minute silence was observed. Gandhian kirtans and patriotic songs were rendered by teachers of Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam as part of the observance.
