Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy lambasted the film fraternity for their irresponsible behaviour over the stampede during the screening of ‘Pushpa 2’ in Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad and asked them not to be inhuman.

Speaking in the Assembly on Saturday (December 21, 2024) Mr. Reddy said the attitude of the Telugu film fraternity was nothing less than inhuman as none of them responded to the death of Revathi, who died in the stampede and her son battling for his life in the hospital even after 11 days after the incident.

But the same people of the industry called on hero Allu Arjun as if he had suffered serious injuries after he was released spending one night in jail as one of the accused. Heads of the film industry should think over the message they are sending to the society and “Is this what expected of seniors in the industry,” he asked.

He was responding to a question from AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, who wanted the House to be informed about the incident that killed a woman, injured a boy and led to the arrest of a film hero.

The Chief Minister explained in detail how the police refused permission to hero Allu Arjun’s visit given their inability to control thousands of followers who were expected to come to see him. Despite the denial of permission the film hero went ahead and visited the theatre in violation of rules.

Questioning the callous and indefensible attitude of Allu Arjun, the Chief Minister said the hero despite being aware of the stampede and a woman already killed preferred to watch the movie in the theatre. When the police informed him about the incident and asked him to leave silently to avoid commotion and stampede he refused to leave.

It was only after the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) warned of arresting him that Mr. Allu Arjun left the theatre. After coming out there was no remorse from him for the loss of life and he turned his exit also into a roadshow opening his car roof and started waving to the crowd outside.

Attacks KTR

Attacking the BRS working president K T Rama Rao, who objected to the arrest of Allu Arjun in the incident, the Chief Minister said it reflected the uncompassionate attitude of the politician and the film star as well. Mr. Revanth Reddy made it clear that there was no separate law for film personalities and they must abide by the rule. He further said Allu Arjun behaved rudely with the police when they went to his home to inform about the arrest after 11 days of the incident.

Will promote film industry

The Chief Minister said the government was with the industry for its growth and the permission for the special show was also given by the government as a part of the growth policy. “You do business and take incentives from us to strengthen the industry but you can’t be inhuman,” he said.
