Madhya Pradesh police book two persons for social media posts on Pahalgam terror attack
Police said the cyber cell had been monitoring social media since the April 22 attack ‘to make sure any inflammatory posts don’t disturb the peace’
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduTwo men were booked by the Madhya Pradesh police in Damoh on Wednesday (April 23, 2025) for allegedly sharing posts and commenting on social media about the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, officers said.

Damoh Superintendent of Police, City, Abhishek Tiwari said that the cyber cell had been monitoring social media since the April 22 attack, and came across two social media posts that could promote enmity between groups and disturb peace in the area.

The accused were identified as Wasim Khan and Tanveer Qureshi, and a case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 196 at the Kotwali police station, he said.

“In the wake of the Pahalgam incident we were monitoring social media to make sure any inflammatory posts don’t disturb the peace, and the contents of the two posts hinted that they could hurt religious sentiments and promote enmity between two groups. We will continue to monitor more posts and comments online,” Mr. Tiwari told reporters.
He said the police would interrogate the two individuals, and would also examine more comments on the post. “We will try to go to the end of it,” Mr. Tiwari said.
