YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP Y. V. Subba Reddy strongly opposed the Wakf Amendment Bill during the debate in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, saying that it would jeopardise the Constitutional rights and religious freedom of the Muslim community.

He said that the Bill would seriously damage the faith of Muslims in the Constitution and Parliament, and pointed out that several Muslim organisations including the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, who raised concerns about the Bill had their voices ignored.

He insisted that the Bill goes against Articles 13, 14, 25, and 26 of the Indian Constitution, in which the rights to equality, religious freedom, and the management of religious institutions were enshrined. He also criticised the proposal to include non-Muslim members in Waqf Boards, calling it unconstitutional and unnecessary.

Mr. Subba Reddy alleged that the Andhra Pradesh government failed to protect the interests of Muslims, and said that the Bill would weaken the financial structure of the Waqf Board and place unjust restrictions on donations.

He urged Parliament to stand for the values of democracy and secularism, and maintained that the Bill was not just about property but about protecting the faith and rights of a large community in India.
