Bengal BJP leader Dilip Ghosh marries party Mahila Morcha leader

West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh on Friday (April 18, 2025) married his party’s Mahila Morcha leader Rinku Majumdar at a private ceremony.

Mr. Ghosh who was the president of the party’s State unit from 2015 to 2021 posed with his wife before media persons and thanked his well wishers. Wishes poured in not only from his own party leaders but across political lines including from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Mr. Ghosh, 60, who started as pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at a very early age worked in various districts of West Bengal before being actively involved with the BJP in 2014. Mr. Ghosh has been considered as the most successful party president in the State and under his leadership the party won 18 of the 42 Lok sabha seats in the State in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Mr. Ghosh was replaced by Sukanta Majumdar as West Bengal BJP president in 2021. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Ghosh lost to Trinamool candidate and former BJP leader Kirti Azad from the Burdwan-Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency. The party had decided to replace him from the Midnapore Lok Sabha seat, which he had won in 2019.

The couple met in 2021 during morning walks in ECO Park in Kolkata’s New Town area and their friendship blossomed over time. The BJP leader said he will continue his political activities after marriage.

Several leaders of the West Bengal BJP, including party president Sukanta Majumder, Mangal Pandey, Sunil Bansal, Amit Malviya, Samik Bhattacharya, Locket Chatterjee and Rahul Sinha, visited the residence of Mr. Ghosh and offered their wishes. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari was a notable absentee who said he will not comment on personal issues of an individual.
