The ruling DMK has decided to field its candidate in the February 5 bypoll for Erode East Assembly constituency, which had fallen vacant following the death of Congress leader EVKS Elangovan last month. Announcing this in a statement late on Friday, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai called upon his party cadre to work hard to ensure the victory of the DMK candidate in the bypoll. “Considering that the 2026 Assembly Elections in the State will be held in another 10 months and based on the request of Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, who heads the INDIA bloc in the State, it has been decided unanimously by the All India Congress Committee and the TNCC, after discussions, that the DMK will field its candidate for Erode East bypoll” Mr. Selvaperunthagai said.
