Jammikunta railway station to be included in Amrit Bharat Station Scheme soon for redevelopment, says Bandi Sanjay

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has said that Jammikunta railway station in Karimnagar district will soon be included in the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) and modernised on the lines of Karimnagar railway station.

Mr Sanjay, along with Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and others, attended the virtual inaugural ceremony of the redeveloped Karimnagar railway station in Karimnagar on Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated a total of 103 redeveloped railway stations across the country including Karimnagar, Warangal and Begumpet in Telangana through video conferencing from New Delhi.

The Karimnagar railway station has been redeveloped at an estimated cost of ₹27 crore under the ABSS. The station now features escalators, a foot overbridge, smart signage, AC and non-AC waiting halls, food courts, a solar power plant, high level platforms and modern toilets, among other facilities.

Addressing the gathering at the railway station, Mr Sanjay reiterated that railway projects in Telangana have received top priority under the Narendra Modi government.

In the last 11 years, 20 projects covering 2,298 km have been undertaken in the State. Railway works worth ₹42,119 crore are currently in progress across Telangana, he said, adding that funds to the tune of ₹5,337 crore have been allocated for Telangana railway projects in the Union Budget in this fiscal. He said a survey on the new railway line between Hasanparthy and Karimnagar has already been conducted and a detailed project report prepared. The 61-km line is estimated to cost ₹1,480 crore, and a decision from the Central government is expected soon.

He added that efforts are on to ensure operation of the Karimnagar-Tirupati train from the present two-times to four-times a week by overcoming some technical hurdles.
