by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduAs the second day of annatyag protest begins in Massajog village on Wednesday (February 26, 2025), Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the appointment of lawyer and BJP leader Ujjwal Nikam as the Special Public Prosecutor in the Santosh Deshmukh murder case.
The government of Maharashtra has issued a notification to announce the appointments related to the case.
“Senior lawyer Ujjwal Nikam has been appointed as the Special Public Prosecutor by the Maharashtra government in the Santosh Deshmukh murder case in Beed district, while A Adv. Balasaheb Kolhe has been appointed as the Assistant Special Public Prosecutor,” Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday morning.
As the protestors in Massajog said they were dissatisfied with the probe in the case so far, even as a key accused continues to remain absconding, political pressure has grown on the government. In a social media post put out on the platform X by NCP SP leader Supriya Sule, she sought the Chief Minister’s intervention in giving justice to the family of the murdered sarpanch of Massajog village Santosh Deshmukh, and to the villagers.
