The UK's most dangerous killer will spend Christmas underground in a glass box
by Lotti OBrien, Caroline Hemmingham · Manchester Evening NewsBritain's most dangerous killer has spent his last 50 Christmases in a cell.
The 71-year-old, who carried out four murders over four years, continues to be held at Wakefield's 'Monster mansion' prison, reportedly spending 23 hours a day in solitary confinement. Born in Liverpool in 1953, Robert Maudsley first killed 1974, murdering child abuser John Farrell.
In 1977, he and another inmate murdered child molester David Francis at Broadmoor Hospital. After being transferred to HMP Wakefield, he killed two more inmates.
Consequently, Maudsley was convicted of three counts of murder and one count of manslaughter. He was deemed too dangerous to be housed with other prisoners, leading to the construction of his current cell.
Despite his circumstances, like all other inmates, Maudsley will receive a full Christmas dinner. Prison documents reveal what will be on his menu, reports the Express.

He will spend December 25 alone in his underground glass cell, equipped with bulletproof windows, a table and chair made from compressed cardboard, a toilet and sink bolted to the floor, and a door with a small slot at the bottom for food delivery. His appeal to spend Christmas with other inmates in 2021 was denied.
The Mirror has reported that the murderer voiced a wish to 'to spend Christmas in the presence of other humans' but his request was denied. Speaking on Channel 5's 'Evil Behind Bars', Maudsley's nephew, Gavin, revealed: "He's asking to be on his own because he knows what can happen."
He added: "Put him on a wing surrounded by rapists and paedophiles - I know this because he told us - he was going to kill as many paedophiles as he could. I'm not condoning what he did."
In a further statement Gavin said: "He did very bad things. But he didn't kill a child or woman. An innocent person didn't go to work that day and never returned home. The people he killed were really bad people."
