Boy, 17, has leg amputated after 100mph 'hit-and-run' police chase crash

A 17-year-old boy who was hit by a car 'going 100mph' that was being chased by police has reportedly had to have his leg amputated.

The teenager remains in 'critical condition' in a coma after the horror crash in Bradford, according to a family friend. He was rushed to hospital after the incident at around 8.30pm on Monday (September 16), the Mirror reports.

A family friend of the page posted on a GoFundMe page that he had gone to Tesco with friends, when a car sped through red lights at 100mph and hit him. She said he has since had to undergo two 'major life-changing operations' and had to have his leg amputated up to his thigh.

She wrote on the fundraiser: "He is still in hospital, in a coma and still in a critical condition due to his injuries. He's been in theatre twice for major life changing operations, which one led to him having to have his leg off up to his thigh.

"His family and friends count their lucky stars he is still here today. However he will have to be in hospital for weeks until he recovers it's going to be one hell of a journey for his family and friends."

West Yorkshire Police said officers spotted a speeding car in Bradford at around 8.25pm, turned around to chase it but the motor was 'out of sight.' They then came across the teenager on Halifax Road, who was believed to have been hit by the suspect vehicle, which had failed to stop at the scene.

He was taken to nearby Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), where he remains. On Wednesday a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. Another man, also 33, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but have all been bailed pending further enquiries.

West Yorkshire Police has voluntarily referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
