Met Office snow forecast for each Greater Manchester area as weather warning issued

The Met Office has warned that snow and ice will hit the UK over the next few days, issuing a yellow weather warning for Greater Manchester.

A warning of snow and ice covering the region is in place from 7pm on Monday night until 10am on Tuesday.

The alert warns of possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers, delays or cancellations to rail and air travel, an increased chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, power cuts and more.

Forecasters have also warned that some rural communities could become cut off and bus and train services may be delayed or cancelled, with some road closures and longer journey times possible.

The Met Office has revealed its tips on how to stay safe during the snowstorm which includes leaving extra time for travelling, taking your time when driving and what to do in the case of a powercut.

Here’s what the Met Office has forecast for each Greater Manchester boroughs.

Bolton

In Bolton the sleet is forecast to start around 6 pm on Monday afternoon, turning to snow around 8 pm which will continue until around 5 am on Tuesday morning. There is a yellow weather warning in place until Wednesday.

Bury

In Bury the Met Office has forecast snow between the hours of 6 pm on Monday afternoon and 6 am on Tuesday morning. There is a yellow weather warning in place until Wednesday.

Oldham

Sleet is forecast to begin at 5 pm in Oldham, which will turn to snow at around 8 pm and continue through the night until around 9 am on Tuesday morning. The yellow weather warning ends on Wednesday.

Rochdale

Sleet will begin in Rochdale at around 6 pm, turning to snow by around 8 pm. The snow will continue throughout the night until around 7 am tomorrow morning when the sun will come out.

Stockport

The Met Office has forecast sleet and snow throughout the night in Stockport, ending at around 8 am tomorrow morning.

Trafford

Sleet and snow is forecast throughout the night in Trafford, ending at around 7 am tomorrow morning, when the yellow weather warning ends.

Wigan

The Met Office has forecast sleet and snow throughout the night in Wigan beginning at around 4 pm today and ending at around 8 am tomorrow morning.

Manchester

Sleet and snow is forecast during the night across Manchester ending at around 7 am tomorrow morning.

Salford

There is a yellow weather warning for Salford across Monday and Tuesday. The Met Office says there is a more than 95 per cent chance of sleet starting at 7 pm on Monday night, turning to snow which will continue until around 7 am on Tuesday morning.
