Two men killed in double stabbing as police arrest man in his 20s

Two men have been killed in a tragic double stabbing in Moss Side. Emergency services were called out to Great Southern Street at 5am this morning (November 17).

The two men were pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of first responders. Greater Manchester Police has described the incident as 'isolated'.

A man in his 20s has been arrested and officers are not searching for another suspect. People are being urged to avoid the area this morning as a major investigation takes place.

Multiple forensics officers are in attendance, with two tents in place on Great Southern Street. Some neighbouring streets have also been taped off while multiple armed response officers are also in attendance.

A GMP spokesperson said: "There is an emergency service presence on Great Southern Street in Moss Side this morning (Sunday, November 17). Officers were called at around 5am to reports that two people had been stabbed.

"Officers alongside colleagues in the emergency services attended and despite the best efforts of first responders two men were treated at the scene for their injuries. They have both sadly been pronounced dead.

"We have arrested one man in his 20s who has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. We are treating this as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public.

"We thank the public for their cooperation and patience as there is a cordon in place on Great Southern Street and into the surrounding area. We are asking the public to continue avoiding the area as there is a large emergency service presence while we establish the full circumstances of the incident this morning."
