Major search for missing personal trainer at Dovestone Reservoir enters third day

by · Manchester Evening News

A major search for a missing personal trainer at Dovestone Reservoir has entered its third day - with a police scene remaining in place.

Emergency crews launched the huge search at the Oldham beauty spot on Sunday afternoon after a man and woman are understood to have fallen into the water while paddleboarding. The woman was rescued and treated for hypothermia and shock, while the man, who has now been named as Simon Daniels, reportedly got into difficulty in the water.

Searches involving police, fire crews, underwater search teams and mountain rescue teams have been ongoing to try and find Simon, a personal trainer from Cheshire, since the incident. This morning, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police told the Manchester Evening News the search remains ongoing.

A police scene remains in place at Dovestone Reservoir, the spokesperson added. Last night, the force said the search would be called off for the evening due to 'very difficult conditions' and would resume today.

A statement said: "The scene remains in place at Dovestone Reservoir. Specially trained officers are continuing to support the family of the missing person.

"Emergency services personnel are working in very difficult conditions and are doing everything they can. The search will continue tomorrow in daylight hours."

Messages have been shared on social media as the efforts to find Simon continue. "Come on brother we are all praying for you," one person wrote as another shared: "Really hoping and praying for Simon Daniels. Please god don't let this be happening to such a lovely guy."

A third person posted: "Winsford is at a very heartbreaking standstill at the moment all hoping and praying of your safe return, but also understanding that may not be the case. But you have a town praying so hard for you right now. With love and support."
