A man armed with a knife has reportedly stabbed three women on a busy metro line sparking a major manhunt.

The suspect allegedly carried out the attacks at Arts-et-Métiers, République, and Opéra stations on the Paris metro today (Friday) between 4.15pm and 4.45pm, a police source told Le Parisien. The attacks are said to have taken place on Line 3, which runs between Bagnolet (Seine-Saint-Denis) and Levallois-Perret (Hauts-de-Seine).

Emergency crews rushed to the scenes, where the three women were treated for minor injuries, including wounds to their backs and thighs, according to police. "The young woman was injured in the thigh," a witness at the Republique station reportedly said. "There was quite a lot of blood; it was a pretty deep cut."

The suspect is believed to have fled on Line 8 before later being arrested at his home in Sarcelles in Val-d'Oise, Le Parisien reports.
