Donald Trump shares cryptic post over something 'big' coming tomorrow night
In a cryptic post on his Truth Social media platform, US President Donald Trump teased how something 'big' would be coming, ahead of a planned address to Congress tomorrow
by Benjamin Lynch · The MirrorDonald Trump has shared a cryptic message on social media saying "tomorrow night will be big" as Nato allies scrambles to work on a deal to end the war in Ukraine.
In a post on his Truth Social media platform this morning, Trump wrote: "TOMORROW NIGHT WILL BE BIG. I WILL TELL IT LIKE IT IS!" Trump is set to address a joint session in Congress tomorrow night. The event is not officially a State of the Union address, which president's tend to give after being in office for at least a year, but it will be an opportunity for Trump to give his first major address since taking office for a second time in January this year.
Speaking to Fox News, Republican Speaker Mike Johnson said that a president would not normally deliver a State of the Union address at this point in their term, but "it actually will be more like a State of the Union address", claiming Trump has "put an America back on a strong footing".
It is not clear what Trump will refer to in his address following a week of international headlines after his Oval Office row with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump accused Zelensky of “gambling with world war three” and said he had not expressed enough thanks for US aid in defending his country against Putin’s invasion.
In the aftermath of the row, European leaders rallied to a conference held by Sir Keir Starmer in London over the weekend. Britain and France has expressed its support for a peace deal, but said this must come with American security guarantees. Reports today have suggested the Trump administration is considering - amid a range of different options - stopping sending military aid to Ukraine in its fight against Vladimir Putin's Russia.
This comes after Zelensky was in Washington last week to sign a minerals deal that exchanges rights to natural resources for further American military support. The Ukrainian leader has expressed his desire to sign the deal following the tense exchange with Trump and Vice President JD Vance. The trip was cut short in the wake of the row and the deal was not signed.
There is some indication Trump could still push for the deal to be approved. He reposted an assessment of his strategy that said Trump is "10 moves ahead" of everyone in a metaphorical game of chess. The post, which joined Trump's other comments on Truth Social, said "Trump is actually protecting Ukraine wihout dragging the US into war... By negotiating a mineral deal, Trump ensurers that Americans will be involved in Ukraine's mining industry. This prevents Russia from launching an invasion, because attacking Ukraine would mean endangering American lives."
In further developments, Zelensky said today that Russia did not want peace, despite Trump's previous statements saying he believes Putin does want to see an end to the war. In a social media post, Zelensky called for "strengthening our air defence, supporting our army, and ensuring effective security guarantees" to make "the return of Russian aggression impossible".
While Britain and France remain hopeful Trump and the US will remain engaged in talks to end the war, Trump's next move remains to be seen and eyes in Europe and Ukraine in particular are likely to be on his address to Congress especially after the world's richest man Elon Musk weighed in on the issue. On his social media site X, Musk, the head of Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) said he agreed with a post calling for the US to leave NATO and the UN.
It is not clear what Trump will talk about in his address, but he has otherwise sought to refocus Americans on domestic issues. Americans “should spend less time worrying about Putin”, Trump even wrote today.
Trump has pursued an agenda that focusses on a crack down on illegal immigration. The president has moved to suspend the asylum process on the US southern border with Mexico and end birthright citizenship for children born in America if their parents do not have legal status. That particular piece of policy has been blocked by two federal judges.
The White House incumbent said on Truth Social the US has more pressing concerns such “migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our Country”. This, the president insisted, is so “we don’t end up like Europe”.
The idea that countries are emptying “mental institutions" and asylums have long been part of Trump’s rhetoric on immigration. In 2023, Trump told the National Rifle Association (NRA) he “read a story” about a man “who takes care of a large segment of people in a mental institution in a South American country” saying he had nothing to do because "all of our patients have been released into the United States of America”.
In February last year, Trump told the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that “we have millions and millions of people and they came from prisons and jails. They came from mental institutions, and [were] insane.”
Trump had previously referenced this story in a speech in New Hampshire. A CNN fact check from 2023 said Trump’s campaign "was unable to provide any evidence of the existence of a news story about a no-longer-busy doctor at a South American mental institution".
Tariffs with the likes of Mexico, Canada and China could also be included in the speech. Other parts of Trump's foreign policy indications include the president saying he wants the US to take control of Gaza. All of this is happening as Musk's DOGE has set about trying to restructure the federal government This has led to a series of legal battles and thousands of federal workers being laid off.
