Air Force One base on lockdown and people rushed to hospital as 'white powder' found
A building inside Joint Base Andrews in Maryland has been forced to evacuate after an individual opened a suspicious package
by Zahra Khaliq · The MirrorSeveral people at the US military base in Maryland which is home to Air Force One have fallen ill after a suspicious package was delivered to the site, according to multiple media reports.
A building inside Joint Base Andrews was forced to evacuate after an individual opened the package and found white powder, CNN reports, citing sources. Political "propaganda" was also reportedly concealed within the package.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and said there was no immediate threat but officers at the base have now launched a probe and the site was forced to go into lockdown as a precaution.
It’s not yet known what symptoms the people who fell sick at the airbase experienced. The package was delivered just one day after Donald Trump was at the base.
The US president often takes the Marine One helicopter from The White House to the military base before boarding Air Force One ahead of overseas trips.
The base is also home to the C-130 Hercules aircraft, which is used in cargo operations, and the refueling tanker known as the KC-135R Stratotanker.
