Is Carla leaving Coronation Street, and does she die? Alison King's ITV soap fate revealed
Coronation Street's Carla Connor was attacked and left seriously injured on Monday night's episode of the ITV soap, but does Alison King's character die and is she leaving?
by Charlotte Tutton · The MirrorViewers tuning into Monday's Coronation Street were left fearing for Carla Connor as she was brutally attacked and left for dead.
She was hit over the head during a robbery at the factory but after an ambulance was called she seemed fine. Sadly she collapsed towards the end of the episode, and was found unconscious by Betsy Swain.
Carla was rushed to hospital where her worried loved ones including Ryan Connor and pal Roy Cropper waited for news. Betsy told her mother Lisa Swain about Carla's peril, leaving her stunned.
What she failed to mention though was that she had organised the break-in with Mason Radcliffe's brothers Matty and Logan. When she went to check on Carla she found her lifeless.
Just that day Lisa had told Carla she didn't want a relationship after their moment of passion on Friday. Betsy's hurt over the romance led to a row between Carla and Lisa, known as Swarla by their adoring fanbase.
But after another clash of sorts on Monday, Lisa was left in turmoil after finding out Carla was in a bad way. Racing to the hospital she learned the worrying news that Carla was in emergency surgery, after suffering from a bleed on the brain.
But does Carla survive her brush with death? is actress Alison King leaving the role after decades? It's now been revealed what Carla's future looks like, and it seems she does survive the drama.
Later this week Lisa will sit by Carla's bedside, before Carla is able to return home at the end of the week. So yes, Carla does live to tell the tale, but will Betsy be exposed?
It's unclear, but what is clear is Carla and Lisa aren't ready to let go of what they have and will at some point very soon be united. Teasing what's ahead for them, Corrie boss Kate Brooks told The Mirror: "Carla has fallen in love with a person that she didn’t expect to fall in love with, and that presents many challenges and I think irrespective of gender. With Lisa she has a lot of barriers up, she’s still grieving for the loss of her wife, she’s still very much grieving that. Initially it’s Lisa who struggles to let down those barriers, let Carla see that vulnerability.
"It’s really interesting watching Carla navigate this because we know Carla, we love Carla, and this is completely alien and unknown and unchartered waters but yet she navigates them really well, and it’s just going to be an absolute ride. We want to keep them secure, we want to keep them grounded, we want to make that relationship really believable and it is, what I’ve seen on screen is fantastic between the two of them, and I think it’s really important to tell these stories properly.
"At the heart of it is a relationship, it’s a love story and they will, inevitably, get a lot of curveballs thrown their way. 2025 is not a quiet year for them two and there’s a lot of hurdles that come their way, a lot of obstacles, things that they didn’t quite anticipate that get in the way of their relationship, but ultimately they emerge from this strong and united. I’m really excited to be with this couple on this journey, I think the drama and the story they’ve given us already is immense and there’s going to give us a lot more of that."
