A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder after multiple shootings in the northeast of the state. Daricka M. Moore faces a first-degree murder charge that could be upgraded to capital murder, the county sherriff said.
A gunman attacked across three separate locations in West Point, a city in Clay County, Mississippi of Friday. Local authorities today confirmed a person was in custody following the sickening attacks.
Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said in a Facebook post that “multiple innocent lives” were lost “due to violence” in the town of West Point, near the Alabama border. The sheriff told WTVA that six people were killed in three locations.
He said the victims were all family members related to the suspect. “I don’t know what kind of motive you could have to kill a 7-year-old,” he said at a press conference Saturday.
The shootings took place in the rural community of Cedarbluff, which is west of the county seat of West Point, news agency AP reported.
A suspect was in custody and there was no threat to the community, the sheriff wrote on Facebook.
