Thomas Partey rape charges in full as Metropolitan Police and CPS release statement
by Sam Truelove · football.londonThomas Partey will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5 after the former Arsenal star was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The 32-year-old, who left the Gunners on June 30 after his contract expired, is alleged to have raped two women and sexually assaulted a third between 2021 and 2022, the Metropolitan Police said. The Ghana international was charged with the offences on Friday following a long investigation by police which began in February 2022.
The Metropolitan Police's statement reads: "The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives.
"The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32, of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences; five counts of rape [and] one count of sexual assault.
"The charges are broken down as follows; two counts of rape relate to one woman, three counts of rape relate to a second woman [and] one count of sexual assault relates to a third woman.
"The offences are reported to have taken place between 2021 and 2022. The charges follow an investigation by detectives, which commenced in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape."
In a statement of their own, the CPS said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Thomas Partey with multiple counts of rape. Partey, 32, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
"These allegations relate to three separate women who reported incidents which took place between 2021 and 2022. Partey will now appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday 5 August 2025."
In a statement, Partey's lawyer Jenny Wiltshire said her client "denied all the charges against him" and "now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name".
