‘A close friend, respected intellectual’: Nanta pays tribute to Madeline Berma

KUCHING (Dec 30): The late Datuk Dr Madeline Berma will be remembered as a well-known community figure whose contributions to education and community development were extensive, particularly in Sarawak.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said Madeline’s lifelong commitment to advancing knowledge and uplifting communities had left a lasting impact on both the state and the nation.

In a statement, the Works Minister highlighted that her contributions, especially in education and community development, had benefited many and would continue to be remembered as part of her enduring legacy.

“Her passing is a great loss to Sarawak and the country,” he said, adding that he prayed her family would be granted strength and fortitude during this period of mourning.

Nanta also expressed his condolences to Madeline’s family, describing the prominent Sarawakian economist and academic as a close friend and highly respected public intellectual.

Madeline passed away at her residence in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor, at about 11.30am today. She was 64.
